Confirmation

In the Sacrament of Confirmation, the grace first received in Baptism is strengthened and brought to completion by a special outpouring of the Holy Spirit. The confirmed Christian is more firmly united to Christ and his Church and receives particular strength to profess, defend and live the Catholic faith.

Confirmation reminds us that Christian discipleship is not simply a private relationship between an individual and God. We are sent into the world as witnesses to Christ. The gifts of the Holy Spirit strengthen us for that vocation: to live courageously as Catholics in our families, our work and our communities, and to bear witness to the Gospel by both our words and our lives.

For members of the Ordinariate, this has a particular resonance. The Ordinariate itself was born from journeys of faith undertaken in response to the call towards the full communion of the Catholic Church. Confirmation expresses that same willingness to follow where God leads and to allow the Holy Spirit to deepen our communion with Christ and his Church.
